As you’ve probably heard by now, an Egyptian journalist has become internet-famous after confusing Leonardo DiCaprio with her Oscar interview questions. DiCaprio won his first ever Oscar on Sunday, putting to rest what seems like a lifetime of internet ridicule for having never received one in the past.

Now the Internet has turned its attention to the Egyptian journalist, Shaimaa Abdel Moniem, and the ridicule has started rolling in.

At a backstage press conference, she got her opportunity to ask the award winner a question. This is how it panned out:

“I’m a first Egyptian journalist covering Oscars from here, and what about the first Oscars for you?” she asked DiCaprio.

He looked confused and asked her to repeat the question.

“For your Oscar,” she said.

“Yeah, it feels amazing” DiCaprio replied. People in the room laughed at the question, perhaps considering it obvious.

“It’s a first, what about that?” she repeated.

“Yeah, it is the first. Look, like I said, I’m just incredibly grateful. Thank you,” DiCaprio answered.

Of course, the cringe-worthiness of the moment went viral.

This is how the Internet reacted.

Leo's Response: Who are you?

Ok why say you're Egyptian? Why make this scandal? You could just ask the dumb question and shut up?

This is what's stupid about the Egyptians. They pretend to be geniuses and know everything. You had one job, you Sheikh, language! Learn it before you try and speak it.
