Reports emerged this week indicating the US will soon be directly arming Kurdish forces near the Turkish border.
Kurdish militia People's Protection Unit (YPG) are in the midst of planning a large offensive against Daesh (ISIS) militants near their de facto capital city of Raqqa, in eastern Syria. This comes amid reports last week confirming President Barack Obama's approval of a weapons shipment to Kurdish and Arab forces fighting on the ground.
Released this week is a list of the weapons that will soon be on their way to the groups near the Turkish border, reportedly carried there from Iraq.
Following the latest blunder in the US's $500 million train and equip program for vetted Syrian rebels, some speculate this new weapons transfer could be the way Washington's choosing to address Moscow's new strikes in Syria.
