Extreme weather has struck the United Arab Emirates, causing major disruption. Flights were reportedly cancelled, and schools were closed amid safety concerns. Police told residents to remain safe after several motor accidents were reported in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
No deaths have been reported due to the weather, however massive property damage was apparently widespread.
“Civil Defence personnel worked tirelessly all day to remove water from under bridges and tunnels, and to remove hundreds of uprooted trees and other debris from the roads,” said Major General Jassem Al Marzouqi, Commander-in-Chief of the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence.
Social media users uploaded photos and videos of the damage on Twitter and Facebook.
