He was the instrumental figure in the racist “birther” movement, which claimed Barack Obama was born in Kenya.
But now Donald Trump, the President Elect of the United States of America, has his own birthplace conspiracy theory to contend with.
Urdu news channel Neo News this week ran the bizarre story that Trump is in fact Dawood Ibrahim Khan – born in Waziristan in 1954. Little Dawood’s parents were killed in a car accident and he was taken to the UK by a British army sergeant shortly afterwards, the report claims.
The boy was then taken to the USA in 1955, the report suggests. It even provides a photograph of a blonde child they claim to be Donald Trump in younger days.
The story was based on social media reports, according to various news outlets which picked up the case after it went viral. It’s unclear whether Neo News intended the report to be a legitimate story or something more tongue in cheek.
In the wake of Donald Trump’s shock rise to victory there have been few laughs, and the story was quickly picked up by frustrated netizens eager to join in on the trolling.
