Multiple reports say that Daesh (ISIS) leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and three other senior leaders have been poisoned. The news comes from various Arabic-language and Iranian news sites.
The information traces back to a source in Iraq’s Nineveh province, part of which is under Daesh control. The source, who is anonymous, said meals prepared for Baghdadi and the other commanders were poisoned, apparently severely.
The poisoning is said to have happened in Al-Ba’aj, southwest of Mosul – Daesh’s biggest city. The reports further say that Daesh is now conducting several arrests in order to determine who was behind the poison attack.
This is not the first time al-Baghdadi has been hurt in an attack. In 2015, for example, al-Baghdadi was severely injured in a US airstrike. In June of this year, rumors surfaced that he was killed by a US airstrike in Raqqa, but this turned out to be false.
