What is Ramadan ?
Ramadan holds profound significance in Islam, as it is believed to be the month during which the Quran, the holy book of Islam, was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) by Allah.
Therefore, it's considered the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, a time for spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and increased devotion to worship.
The primary pillar of Ramadan is fasting, known as Sawm. Muslims who have reached puberty and are in good health abstain from food, drink, smoking, and other physical needs from dawn (Fajr) until sunset (Maghrib).
Fasting is not merely about abstaining from food and drink but also involves restraining from negative behaviors such as gossiping, lying, and impure thoughts. The purpose of fasting is to attain Taqwa, or God-consciousness, and to empathize with the less fortunate, fostering compassion and gratitude.
