Improper preparation of tea can also lead to negative effects on health. Using boiling water to brew delicate teas like green or white tea may cause the tannins and bitter flavors to overpower the delicate taste of the tea leaves, reducing the overall benefits.

Furthermore, adding high levels of sugar or honey to tea can lead to weight gain and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes.
