ALBAWABA - Fruits are a staple in almost every healthy diet out there due to their numerous health benefits. They are packed with nutrients, vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants that help maintain a healthy body. 

With all that said, even the healthiest of fruits can lose some of their benefits if they are not eaten, stored, or prepared correctly. Here are some mistakes to avoid in order to take the most benefits you can get from whichever fruit you decide to consume:

1. Eating overripe fruits

Overripe fruits contain a high sugar content, which makes them less beneficial and can lead to an upset stomach. they are also more prone to infections and can be a breeding ground for bacteria so make sure to consume fruits when they are at their peak and store them properly.

2. Throwing away the skin

Many fruits such as apples, pears, and peaches contain valuable nutrients in their skins. The skin also provides a good source of fiber, which is essential for gut health. You'd be missing out on a lot of benefits certain fruits can give you by getting rid of their skin.

3. Drinking fruit juices

Fruit juices may seem like a healthy way to increase your nutrient intake, but it also removes the beneficial fiber. Plus, the sugars in juice are quickly absorbed by the body, leading to spikes in your blood sugar levels. Instead, try having whole fruits or blending them in a smoothie.

4. Storing fruits the wrong way

Storing fruits at the wrong temperatures or in the wrong place can quickly spoil the fruits and reduce their health benefits. Some fruits like berries and grapes have a short shelf life and should be consumed immediately or stored in the fridge. On the other hand, other fruits like bananas and apples can be stored at room temperature.

5. Consuming fruits at night

Even though fruits are a healthier option than most snacks, eating them right before going to bed is not the best idea. Fruits are a source of natural sugars, and eating them in the evening may cause blood sugar levels to rise, which can disrupt the sleep cycle, so be careful of that.

Fruits are an essential component of a healthy diet and offer numerous health benefits, on top of being delicious. However, it is important to consume them the right way to maximize their nutritional value.
