LG Electronics launches LG Harat League initiative

Under the patronage of HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, LG Electronics, the global leader and technology innovator in consumer electronics, mobile communications and home appliances, has recently launched the “LG Harat League” Initiative, a tournament where 500 teams representing 500 neighborhoods will compete in school playgrounds in different parts of the Kingdom.

“LG Harat League”, held in association with Hikmat Road Safety, the Ministry of Education, the Greater Amman Municipality, and the Traffic Department, commenced its activities on March the 23^rd of 2011 during a press conference held at the Ahmad Touqan School in Jabal Al Nuzha.

The League, the largest championship of its kind in Jordan, features 500 teams from the age group of (9-13) years old, who will play against each other and will be eliminated to the final 3 teams competing for first, second and third places in July 2011.

Commenting on this Initiative was the delegated representative on behalf of His Royal Highness Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, and member of the Jordanian Football Association, Mr. Louay Omeish, who stated, “We applaud the launch of this league, a testament of the continuous efforts aiming to keep children off the streets and to enable them to exercise their right to play in playgrounds and school yards.”

From his side, representative of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Ali Al-Saitan, praised the leading role HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein plays in supporting the youth sports movement in Jordan, which came as a result of the joint efforts between the Ministry of Education, Hikmat Road Safety, and LG Electronics – a role model for constructive partnership in social responsibility between the private and public sectors.

This unique partnership between the private and public sectors will not only encourage athleticism amongst children, but will also help build the skills of youth and facilitate the discovery of gifted players and their recruitment into the national team from an early age. 

Commenting on the League’s launch was LG Electronics Levant’s Managing Director, Mr. Kevin Cha, who praised the launch of this social initiative and blessed this mutual cooperation that will bring excellent results in all aspects, and expressed, “At LG, we are committed to make life better. Our slogan “Life’s Good” goes beyond our products, as LG is always working to support local youth and community initiatives designed to make the world a better place.”

Hikmat Road Safety’s Founder, Mr. Maher Kadoura, expressed, “Our main goal with the Malaeb initiative and the LG Harat League is to keep children away from the streets by providing suitable playgrounds that prevent street dangers.  Children in the age group of 9-13 years are the most susceptible to car accidents while playing on the street. With this step, we aim to provide children with a safer place to play, encourage their healthy lifestyle and develop their competitive spirit through football.”

It is worth mentioning that the grand prize for the first prize winner will be announced shortly, to encourage children to put forward their best performances and talents during the games.

“LG Harat League”, comes in light of the “Malaeb” initiative where 500 football fields in public schools were renovated for the students and the children of that area to play in after school and during the summer vacation.  Prior to the League’s launch, LG Electronics has actively sponsored the renovation of 300 playgrounds.

The launch press conference was followed by an exhibition game in the presence of a number of the national team’s players, and a show presented by the Public Security Police Band.
