Egyptian actress Summaya Al Khashab has launched a campaign to stop suicide and called on artists to play a positive role facing the new trend of suicide that is spreading around the Arab world starting in Tunisia and spreading to Alegeria, Egypt, Morocco and Sudan.
Summaya stated that she is very sad to see the point of despair and depression most young people in the Arab world have reached that they would take their own lives so easily.
According to the London based Elaph, Summaya stress that artists must play an important role creating awareness against this new phenomenon. The actress said that the role artists can play is by holding seasonal festivals and give all the proceeds to young poor people to start new projects to make a living.
Summaya noted that the suicide phenomenon is mainly due to the deteriorating financial conditions in the Arab world and the lack of finding employment. She added that most people do not have the will to go on and therefore commit suicide easily.
The actress stressed that hope and a reason for living must be implanted in every young person to stop this tragedy.
