Egyptian actress Ghada Abd Al Raziq has announced that she has cut her wage in half for her role in the upcoming television drama “Samarah”. The actress made her decision after being included in the black list of stars created by protesters of Egypt’s January 25 Revolution, which overthrew the government of President Husni Mubarak.
The list was created to boycott works of artists who were pro-Mubarak and were against the revolution.
According to the internet website MBC.net, Egyptian singer Tamer Husni has also cut his wage for his role in the new television drama “Adam”. Tamer has already filmed 20 percent of the drama, which will mark his first television leading role. The drama’s budget has been reduced from 25 million Egyptian pounds to 15 million.
Egyptian actress Mina Shalabi had reduced her wage by half for her role in the film “Itha’it Hubb” (Love Station), but she had made the reduction before the revolution broke out. Mina had made the decision due to the unstable financial situation of Egyptian cinema. The actress also announced that she will be reducing her wages for all upcoming projects.
Many other stars are reducing their wages in an effort to save their popularity, which for many is in jeopardy due to their positions during the revolution. In addition, due to the unstable situation in Egypt, many drama and film makers are halting projects for the lack of finances.
