Prominent Egyptian star Sharihan has denied circulating rumors in the media that she was going to marry the son of ousted Egyptian President Husni Mubarak, Alaa Mubarak. Rumors claim that Alaa’s family refused the engagement and tried to assassinate her by pushing her from a balcony window.
Sharihan’s spokesperson, Jamal Anwar, said that Sharihan had a car accident while driving in Alexandria and suffered broken bones and a spinal cord injury as a result.
She received medical treatment in Egypt and Paris, and the injuries were not a result of a fall from a balcony, as claimed, said Anwar.
“The accident had nothing to do with the family of Mubarak,” said Anwar, and what is being published only causes distress.
Anwar also said that Sharihan’s request to speak freely on the program “Masr Al Naharda” (Egypt Today), hosted by Egyptian journalist Mahmoud Saed, was to speak her mind about the former information minister Anas Al Fiqi and not to talk about Alaa Mubarak.
According to the internet website MBC.net, Anwar said that the rumors began spreading after Sharihan participated in protests during Egypt’s 25 January Revolution that overthrew Mubarak and his regime. Sharihan’s desire is similar to that of any Egyptian that supported the revolution and its cause, and her stance is not her way of taking revenge against the Mubarak family, he said.
