Syrian singer Samo Zein led a protest in front of the Syrian Embassy in Cairo supporting Syrian President Bashar Al Asad at the end of March. The protest was comprised of 300 protesters chanting slogans in support of Al Asad.

Samo advertised for the protest on his official page on the social networking internet website Facebook. The statement on his page read, “God willing, myself and my Arab brothers will be present in front of the Syrian Embassy in Cairo on Thursday March 31, 2011. We will show our support to Arab unity, and we will carry the flags of Egypt, Syria, and the Arab world to show we are one.”

A number of Syrian artists expressed anger over the anti-government protests that broke out in Syria, pledging their full support to Al Asad. Among the artists are Sulaf Fawakhirji, Suzan Najm Al Din and Abbas Al Nouri.
