Lebanese singer Rula Saed has stated that she considers the decision made by the Egyptian Musician Union to ban her in Egypt is unjust. The singer stressed that she will not give up her legal rights of the song “Ayh Dah” (What is this), which is the Union claims it belongs to Lebanese singer Haifa Wahbi.
Rula said she will present legal documents that will prove her rightful ownership of the song. The singer added that the head of the Union, Muneer Al Wasmi, has not legitimate reason to ban her from singing in Egypt and his decision is not legitimate, especially since she was not convicted by any court in Egypt or Lebanon. She also stated that the Union would have a right to ban her from singing only if she did not pay her fees and taxes for performances or if she broke the law.
Rula noted that her song is different from Haifa’s and if anyone should be prosecuted it is the song writer or composer, since they are the ones who sold the propriety rights of the song.
