Lebanese singer Rula Saed was shocked by the official decision taken by the Head of the Egyptian Musician Union, Muneer Al Wasmi, banning her from singing in Egypt without giving any clear justifications for it.
According to the London based Elaph, Rula was scheduled to hold a charitable concert in Alexandria Egypt alongside Lebanese singer Rami Ayash, which proceeds were to go directly to the Cancer Hospital in Egypt that treats patients for free, but due to the decision by the Union her performance was cancelled.
The event was held at the Accasia Resort that is owned by Egyptian businessman Alaa Arfi and was organized by his the Rotary club in Egypt that is headed by Hiba Arfi, Alaa’s wife. Rami performed alone at the event and the fact the Rula was forbidden to sing caused two of the event’s sponsors to back out and numerous fans to demanded refund of their tickets causing monetary losses to the organizers of the event.
Close contacts of the singer revealed that Rula intends on filing for an appeal to the decision and filing charges against Muneer for making such a decision without giving clear justifications.
Several sources revealed that the decision to ban Rula from singing was a result of her case with Lebanese singer Haifa Wahbi over the propriety rights of the song “Ay Dah Ay Dah” (What is this). It was noted that Rula had failed to appear in person for questioning in front of the Union and had sang the song despite warnings from the Union.
Sources also stated that for some time Rula has been facing several obstacles with the Musician Union in Egypt, which had increased the fees for her performances in Egypt in order to persuade people to avoid requesting her to perform.
