Prominent Syrian actor Jamal Suleiman has stated that he has not made up his mind about his nomination for the leading role in the new Syrian drama “Saddam wa Ana”(Saddam and me). Jamal said that the role he was nominated for is not to portray the late Iraqi president Saddam Hussein. The actor revealed that he resented the way Saddam was executed, despite the fact that he opposed his dictatorship and politics.

According to the internet website MBC.net, Jamal said that Saddam’s character is a controversial one and the events in his life deserve to be focused on despite the fact that many of the decisions he had made as president were not thought through and created many problems. Jamal added that he refuses to play the role of Saddam in the new drama.

The actor stated that regardless of his feelings towards Saddam, he was very disappointed with the way he was put to trial and executed and thought it was the most disgraceful trial he had ever witnessed.

Jamal added that the drama is still in the creation phase and Syrian director, Al Laith Hajjo, said that he wants the drama to reflect how the fate of every Arab citizen was tied to that of Saddam. In addition, Al Laith wants to portray the changes that occurred since Saddam came into power until his downfall and execution.
