Kuwaiti singer Basmah has released her first album after an absence that lasted for three years from the scenes. Basmah, who was away due to family circumstances, stated that she refuses to imitate Lebanese singer Haifa Wahbi’s seductive style to reach fame.
According to the internet website MBC.net, Basmah said in a press conference held for launching her album that she does not intend on traveling to Beirut or Cairo and will not sing in different dialects to expand her popularity. Basmah stressed that she wants to be known for being a Khaliji (Gulf) singer and plans on focusing on compositions from the old days to revive songs that are part of the Khaliji history.
Basmah said during the conference that refuses to acquire a seductive style in her music video as is the manner of Haifa Wahbi stressing that it goes against gulf traditions and ethics. She added that having fewer cloths on when singing is not what makes a singer popular, on the contrary the words and compositions of the song is what make it last in the minds of people.
The singer stated that she faced numerous difficulties while working on her album, which she completely funded herself. She added that musician Fahd AL Rawaydan, who wrote most of the songs for the album, overlooked most of the details with her.
