Despite reports on Monday that Iranian jets were refused fuel abroad, Iran has said that its planes were not blocked from refueling.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast on Tuesday denied reports that some countries reused to fuel Iranian planes because of sanctions.
"No such limitation has been imposed," Mehmanparast told a news conference, adding that the reports were part of a propaganda war against Tehran.
On Monday, Iran's ISNA news agency quoted Mehdi Aliyari, the secretary of the Iranian Airlines Union, as saying that Iranian plans were reused fuel at airports in the UAE, Britain and Germany because of U.S. sanctions.
"Since last week, our planes have been refused fuel at airports in Britain, Germany and UAE because of the sanctions imposed by America," Aliyari was quoted as saying. "Refusing to provide fuel to Iranian passenger planes by these countries is violation of international conventions."
The British government has said it was unaware of any fuel supply cuts while the German Transport Ministry said there was no ban on refueling Iranian jets.
UAE airport authorities also denied reports saying that sanctions would not affect flights from Iranian-based airlines Iran Air and Mahan Air. "Dubai Airports confirms that Iranian airlines operating in and out of Dubai International continue to be refueled," a Dubai Airports spokeswoman, said. ''We have contracts with Iranian passenger flights and continue to allow refueling," she added.
