Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Thursday that Tehran would announce next week the terms of a possible resumption of negotiations on its nuclear program with the Western powers. The Iranian state television quoted Ahmadinejad as saying that "these countries threaten Iran and believe that the Iranian nation afraid of," adding that the Iranian people would negate the effect of threats.
The Iranian leader's remarks come one day after the Chairman of Iran's Atomic Energy Authority, Ali Akbar Salehi said the country has produced 17 kilograms of 20-percent enriched uranium so far. The UN Security Council imposed new sanctions on Iran earlier this month fearing that Tehran is seeking to build a nuclear bomb. Iran denies the accusations, saying its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.
