The new 2011 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport have arrived and are in Al Tayer Motors’ showrooms across Dubai, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, and in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain at its subsidiary - Premier Motors’ showrooms.

Class-leading V8 engines, peerless 6-speed transmission, Terrain Response upgrades and external styling enhancements all combine to ensure the 2011 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport retain their crown as kings of the luxury SUV segment.  The iconic Range Rover and Range Rover Sport is further enhanced by the fabulous 5.0 LR-V8 supercharged and 5.0 LR-V8 naturally aspirated engines, both offering a combination of supreme power and sublime refinement.

Range Rover 2011

The 2011 Range Rover’s 5.0-litre, 510bhp supercharged and 375bhp naturally aspirated LR-V8s deliver supreme performance and economy. Equipped with the latest direct fuel injection systems, these lightweight engines combine benchmark efficiency with outstanding levels of power and torque delivered from low down the rev range. 0-100kph is reached in the naturally aspirated car in just 7.6 seconds while for those who want the last word in performance, the supercharged V8 will rush to 100kph in a mere 6.2 seconds.

The 2011 model year Range Rover is further enhanced by improvements to the Terrain Response® system in the form of Hill Start Assist and Gradient Acceleration Control. Inside the cabin illuminated treadplates are available for the front doors. Dynamically, the Range Rover is equipped with the ultimate in suspension systems incorporating Adaptive Dynamics technology, which exercises firm control over the body through turns while immersing the occupants with the smooth ride Range Rovers are famous for.

Active safety aids include available Adaptive Cruise Control, Emergency Brake Assist, available Blind Spot Monitoring, available Automatic High Beam Assist and an available Surround Camera System. Detail improvement to the exterior includes new ‘Jupiter’ grilles and side vents for the non-Autobiography naturally aspirated models. A new Exterior Design Pack option gives customers the chance to give their Range Rover a more individual look and new colours and wheels have been added to the range.

Both the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport have been equipped with the Hill Start Assist and Gradient Acceleration Control systems. Hill Start Assist retains the initial driver-generated brake pressure, long enough for the foot to move from brake pedal to throttle without the car rolling backwards. The brake is released after a sufficient time has elapsed or when the engine is supplying enough torque to move the car up the hill. Hill Start Assist is always available, not selectable, and neither is its operation indicated to the driver.

Gradient Acceleration Control is designed to provide safety cover on severe gradients when the driver does not have Hill Descent Control engaged. By pressurising the brake system, Gradient Acceleration Control slows the car to a limit determined by the throttle position when the car is descending the slope in the driver’s intended direction of travel. This includes descending the slope forwards in drive, or rearwards in reverse. Otherwise (such as descending while facing up the gradient with Drive selected) Gradient Acceleration Control restricts speed to 5km/h for up to 20 seconds, allowing the driver to regain proper control.

Range Rover customers can choose the optional Exterior Design Pack available in a choice of eight colours. The Exterior Design Pack comprises a revised front bumper with fog lamp surrounds, front grille and side vents in Titan finish, revised side sills, rear bumper and stainless steel exhaust finishers.

The range of exterior paint colours has been expanded with two further choices, Fuji White (replacing Alaska White) and Baltic Blue (replacing Buckingham Blue). From the summer of 2011, optional illuminated treadplates will become available on front doors only, with the Range Rover name backlit by LED lights.

The Range Rover’s European leather trim for headlining and door casings combined with sumptuous leather seat trim and upgraded waterfall lighting, cosset the occupants in luxury. A 12-inch TFT instrument display provides greater versatility than conventional instruments while the 8-inch Dual View infotainment screen displays a different image to driver and passenger.

These exceptional levels of comfort are further enhanced when customers choose the option of a Logic 7, 1200W Harman Kardon High Dynamics Audio System. Widely acknowledged as one of the finest in-car audio systems in the world, the Logic 7 has 15 independent channels driving 19 premium quality speakers. 

Range Rover Sport

A new Limited Edition joins the Range Rover Sport line-up for 2011, which is positioned above the HSE. Land Rover’s remarkable 5.0 LR-V8 petrol engines continue to head the Range Rover Sport powertrain range in 2011. With the supercharged version developing  510PS and 625Nm torque and the naturally aspirated version, 375PS and 510Nm torque, they set new standards in petrol engine design when introduced last year, packed as they are with innovation design features aimed at boosting both performance and economy.

The Range Rover Sport’s engine is equipped with the ultra-refined ZF HP28 6-speed automatic transmission. Its characteristics have been optimised by Land Rover engineers to provide the same class-leading response and rapid, refined shifts on all engines. Their superior power and torque characteristics make it possible to actuate the transmission’s lock-up clutches much earlier in each gear, reducing slip through the hydraulic torque converter, optimising both fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions.

The new Range Rover Sport is laden with features aimed at reducing both fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions. The high pressure, spray guided direct injection system of the 5.0 LR-V8 optimises combustion while the variable camshaft timing system, camshaft profile switching (naturally aspirated only) and variable inlet manifold all join forces to ensure the engines are optimised for fuel efficiency throughout the range. Thanks to the advanced cooling system, faster warm-up also improves fuel economy as do the low friction design features.

The Range Rover Sport incorporates several other energy saving features too. At standstill, the idle speed of the 5.0 LR-V8 supercharged is 700rpm, using the minimum of fuel without compromising refinement. An Intelligent Power Management System includes Smart Regenerative Charging, so whenever possible the alternator charges the battery when it is most economical to do so, such as when the car is coasting rather than accelerating.

Aerodynamic features at the front end such as the lower chin spoiler and front wheel deflectors help to reduce drag by increasing underfloor airflow. The air conditioning pump is driven through a clutch, which disengages when the air conditioning is not in use reducing parasitic losses and delivering improvements in fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions.

True to its promise, the 2011 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport maintains its reputation as the most complete luxury SUV in the world and will be available in showrooms across the Middle East and North Africa from this month onwards.
