Syrian rebels have been fighting against Daesh (ISIS) militants in a part of the country we hardly hear about, but two photos on back-to-back days go to show how much the opposition has accomplished.

Mare, a town in the northern countryside, may not be as hard-hit as Aleppo or Homs, but the area has faced its share of conflict. Here's a photo by the Institute for United Conflict Analysts of the area on Sept. 5.

Here's the area one day later.

Last week the rebels — with the help of US-led coalition airstrikes — launched a major offensive in the area, though little has been said about it. Caught in the middle, the town north of Syria's second-largest city of Aleppo has rebels to the west, Daesh to the east.
