A US Army reservist is suing a gun range in Oktaha, Oklahoma, which asked him to leave once he identified himself as a Muslim. The Save Yourself Survival and Tactical Gun Range had a sign which declared the business a “Muslim-free” zone, according to Brady Henderson of the Oklahoma branch of the American Civil Liberties Union, which filed the suit.

“Whether the sign in question says ‘no Muslims’ or whether it says ‘no coloreds’ or whether it says ‘no women’ or ‘no Christians’ or ‘no Buddhists’ […] it is just as un-American and, fundamentally, it is just as wrong,” he said.

Fatihah, who is on the board of the Oklahoma Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), went to the gun range after he found out that it had posted the sign. He said that the owners were welcoming until he told them he was a Muslim, after which they started treating him with suspicion.

Robert Muise, who is representing the gun range, said that Fatihah was asked to leave because of how he was acting, and that the sign is protected free speech.
