Douma is a Damascus suburb that–like much of the surrounding area–has not been spared the violence of Syria’s devastating civil war. The city is controlled by rebel groups, and has been attacked by regime airstrikes targeting them. But civilians are making the best of it, and have recently turned several rockets into swings for children.
The swings look as you would expect them to look. Pointed in the front and circular in the back, they have space in the middle for the children to sit in. The ceasefire brokered by the US and Russia last week allowed them to be used safely during last week’s Eid al-Adha holiday.

We love life..and demand it for ourselves as a right. Children in Douma play during Eid al-Adha on swings made from rocket casings.
The images have appeared on a variety of news and pro-rebel sites this week.
