For anyone vaguely following Middle East conflicts, the Gaza Strip and tunnels go hand in hand. Even this week, we saw images of Gazans smuggling some good old fashioned Kentucky Fried Chicken into the Strip through the elaborate underground passageways.
But tunnel systems are probably being used inside Syria too, and according to the rebels who use them, they learned from the original engineers themselves — the Palestinians.
In a video interview withn Syrian-based news channel Oreint news, Syrian rebels show a reporter a tunnel stretching some 700 meters into the area of Mount Arbaeen, near the northern Syrian city of Ariha. Packed with stockpiles of explosives and other weapons, the underground passageway is meant to target Syrian regime strongholds in the area, and was build with the help of a video sent by "brothers in Gaza."
Washington DC-based media monitoring center MEMRI-TV provided English subtitles to the video. Check it out below.
