Hasan Hariri, a well-respected doctor in Syria’s rebel-held Daraa region was killed whilst working in the field on Sunday by airstrikes. As well as being one of the first to join the revolution back in 2011 he helped to establish field hospitals to treat the wounded in Daraa.
In 2014 Hariri lost 7 sons in an air raid carried out by the regime on his home. Remarkably he decided to continue working in Daraa as a doctor despite the tragedy, treating countless casualties of the war and caring for his remaining 2 sons.
He is seen by Syrians as a hero in the midst of the horrors of war in Syria, and his death is being mourned heavily by many. His admirers have taken to twitter to express sadness at his loss, as well as to celebrate and share with the world his wonderful work for the people of Daraa.

News of Hariri's death is particularly hard-hitting this week as a UN report emerged detailing the devastinging extent of suffering of children in Syria. The report states reports that over 650 children were killed in 2016, a further 1.7 million are out of school and a total of 6 million depend on humanitarian aid.
