All sorts of theories have been put forward regarding who exactly plotted the July 15 coup in Turkey, including that Erdogan orchestrated the coup himself in a play to consolidate control over the military and government. Now, Qatari Minister of State for Defense Khalid al-Attiyah says he has proof that Saudi Arabia and the UAE were behind the events.

According to Al Masdar, a Syrian news site, Attiyah says he has a confidential document proving his claims. “This document reveals that a Saudi Emir and a top Emirati military official have been aware, in advance, of an imminent plot to topple the Turkish President through their participation in the Anatolian Eagle maneuvers held last May,” the website quoted him as saying on Twitter.

However, the tweet has since been deleted, and there don’t appear to be any further reports on the accusations.

Did Attiyah really possess the secret document? We may never know.
