“Is it safe to roast marshmallows over volcanic vents?”

This question was asked to the US Geological Survey (USGS) department by Jay Furr from Vermont, who was anxious to discover if roasting marshmallows on the vents of the Kilauea Volcano erupted in Hawaii will be safe or poisonous.

Furr asked: “Is it safe to roast marshmallows over volcanic vents? Assuming you had a long enough stick, that is? Or would the resulting marshmallows be poisonous?”

The USGS Twitter account, which has been recently active posting warnings and official updates on the volcano in Hawaii, responded to the tweet urging him not to try it, as in addition to its bad smell and taste, it might be poisonous.

Furr has been trolling the internet over his tweet.

Kilauea in the US state of Hawaii is one of the world's most active volcanoes and it has been very active in recent weeks.

The USGS has issued a number of more formal warnings since it erupted, in addition to evacuating thousands of residents as the lava is moving slowly toward homes and the ocean.
