A Fox News host has caused controversy after delivering what can only be described as a refreshing pro-refugee speech live on television. The commentary comes at a time of heightened political tensions, with numerous state governors announcing they will not allow refugees to be resettled in their states in the wake of last week’s Paris attacks.
Although he does not specifically name any politicians, Fox's Shepard Smith warned viewers that Americans “must not let the rhetoric of potential and political extremists among us lead us to self-destruction.”
Smith suggests that the right path forward for the US at this time is to “welcome huddled masses yearning to breathe free,” and in what appeared to be a statement directed at refugees, he added that “our unique experiment in freedom, tolerance, openness, and equality is our gift to societies and peoples everywhere. Come, join us. Enjoy a chance at the American dream.”

Of course, his words were not met with an entirely positive response. He was condemned by right-wingers for sounding too much like Obama, and many even called for him to leave Fox News.
