A Twitter hashtag created by Syrian state news fell flat with its residents.

The social media campaign, #SummerinSyria, by Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) English meant to promote the war-torn country instead turned into another reminder of the atrocities civilians have had to endure.

SANA English asked its 15,600 followers to tweet photos of Syria. The state was only asking for trouble.

Only ten uses of the hashtag followed before Al Jazeera English reported on its failure to launch, and most of those tweets looked like these.
