Hyatt Hotels & Resorts continues Indian expansion

Hyatt Hotels & Resorts has announced that Hyatt affiliates have signed management agreements for nine new Hyatt-branded hotels in emerging cities across India. This continued expansion in the country brings the total number of Hyatt hotels under development there to 38, it was revealed today at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) in Dubai.

The agreements cover three Hyatt brands: a Grand Hyatt hotel in Noida, Hyatt Regency hotels in Jaipur, Surat, Ghazibad, Chandigarh, Lucknow and Guwahati, and Hyatt Place hotels in Bangalore Devanhalli and Mumbai Seepz. In addition to the agreements, Hyatt also commented that the Hyatt Regency Chennai and Grand Hyatt Goa will open later this year.

Thierry Bertin, Vice President Worldwide Sales – South West Asia, Hyatt International said: “Focusing on building a broad and strong portfolio of properties in the emerging markets is a key element of our strategy. It is almost 30 years since the first Hyatt hotel opened in India so travellers from the Middle East region benefit from our strong heritage in the country in addition to convenient travel routes from key airports in the region.”

With 38 hotels under development in India, Hyatt currently plans to offer its full and select service brands, including:

- 14 Hyatt Regency hotels under development, in addition to four already open;

- Five Grand Hyatt hotels under development, in addition to one already open;

- Four Park Hyatt hotels under development, in addition to one already open;

- 14 Hyatt Place properties under development;

- One Andaz hotel under development.

Hyatt Regency Chennai, the first of three Hyatt hotels to open in India this year, Hyatt Regency Chennai is slated to open in May 2011. The hotel will be Hyatt’s first foray into South India and is a premier business hotel with 325 guestrooms and suites. It is conveniently located in Chennai’s central business district, on the main arterial road, Anna Salai (Mount Road). Offering a unique and interactive dining experience; designed with a sleek, contemporary style to ensure complete comfort and modern luxury.

Grand Hyatt Goa is set on 28 acres of lush tropical gardens, overlooking the sheltered blue waters of Bambolim Bay. It is a unique five-star conference resort and spa located in northern Goa. Inspired by the 17th century Indo-Portuguese architecture, this contemporary palace features 314 Grand Rooms, Suites and one Royal Villa. All accommodations enjoy private terraces or balconies. The hotel will open mid-2011.

Park Hyatt Hyderabad, with 209 guestrooms and suites and 44 serviced apartments, is slated to open in the upscale Banjara Hills area of Hyderabad in South India, at the end of 2011.

As part of this expansion, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts is seeking to attract and develop high-quality talent in India in order to drive future growth. Currently, more than 3,500 associates are employed at Hyatt hotels in India, and with the development effort, it is expected that more than 10,000 new associates will be welcomed into the Hyatt family. Hyatt is investing in training curriculums and accelerated leadership programs in order to ensure that new associates support the company’s mission to deliver authentic hospitality and to develop new professional opportunities for its associates.
