Gulf is qualified to lead the global district cooling sector

Empower, the largest district cooling service provider in the region, has endorsed the first District Cooling Design Manual which is being compiled by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and will be released globally in November 2011.

Empower announced its endorsement of the District Cooling Design Manual at the ASHARE 2011 Winter Conference held in Nevada, United States, recently.

Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower said: “The Gulf is in an advantageous position to lead the global district cooling sector because of its intensified use of district cooling round the year, in contrast to Western countries where district cooling is used only at certain time of the year. We are delighted to be the only district cooling company in the world to endorse the ASHRAE guidelines for the design and building of plant rooms and distribution network for district cooling for the whole world.”

He added: “The Gulf region has sufficient resources and qualified people to achieve a leadership position on the district cooling map in the world. Transferring district cooling solutions from places like USA to the Gulf does not take more than few months, and this gives us access to latest international technology as well as an opportunity to adopt best practices for the benefit of customers in the Middle East and UAE.”

The new guidelines will provide a model for optimal design of district cooling systems, based on a number of field studies of both existing and new distribution systems. The Design Manual is meant for those who want to excel and be recognized by international certifying bodies, as the guidelines go beyond personal ideologies via generalising international standards for everyone in the industry.
