The Chairman of the General Organisation of Sea Ports (GOP) Shaikh Daij bin Salman Al Khalifa met with H.E. Ambassador Alice Semaan, to introduce GOP’s activities and discuss areas of mutual interest. Mrs Semaan, recently appointed as Bahrain’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Kingdom was presented an overview of the activities and latest developments at the Bahrain Logistics Zone (BLZ). 

During the briefing, Shaikh Daij explained some of GOP’s latest initiatives aimed at improving Bahrain’s maritime industry and boosting Bahrain’s attractiveness as a preferred maritime hub.  Some of these projects include deepening approach channel, building service area facility adjacent to port, finalisation of the new maritime code draft, the reform of the licensing and regulation procedures in addition to several other significant initiatives aimed at developing ports infrastructure and enhancing the customer experience. As part of its strategy, GOP is working towards making processes available online with the new ship registry portal expected to go online by end of 2011.  Plans were also discussed for promoting investment opportunities and ongoing development of BLZ.

The meeting concluded with Shaikh Daij reiterating GOP’s commitment to work closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and provide regular updates and relevant information to Bahrain’s embassies and missions abroad. 

The delegates were given a tour of the state-of-the-art Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP) and Bahrain Logistic Zone during which Mr. Hassan Almajed, the Director General of GOP provided a brief on the latest developments at the port and at the Zone.
