FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp and the world’s largest express transportation company, served as hosts for the third annual FedEx Golf Challenge 2011 in the U.A.E. on April 28. The event took place at Al Badia Golf Club in Dubai and the final winner, Eduardo Galeppini, will be granted a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ chance to play 18 holes with one of the top 125 PGA Tour Professionals at the Barclays Pro-Am 2012, which is the first playoff round of the PGA Tour.

The FedEx Golf Challenge includes qualifying rounds in 10 countries around the world, including the U.A.E., with the winners moving on to a playoff at the legendary Pebble Beach Golf Links course in California, U.S. in November. The winner from the U.A.E. qualifier will join winners from the United States, United Kingdom, Portugal, Peru, Canada, South Korea, Ireland, China and the Dominican Republic to battle it out for the FedEx Cup. Initially launched in the U.S., the tournament has become truly global in five short years, with events to be held in 30 international locations in 2011.

"The FedEx Golf Challenge is a highly anticipated event in our calendar. With its local qualifying rounds culminating in an international playoff, we’re proud to be hosting a truly global event that gives customers a unique opportunity to realize their golfing dream,” said Hamdi Osman, senior vice president, Operations, FedEx Express Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa. “FedEx is involved in sporting activities across the world and Dubai is the ideal city to host the FedEx Golf Challenge in the region because of its global prominence and location. It’s the perfect platform for global interaction, and of course enjoyment,” he added.

At the qualifier, FedEx also rewarded respectively Shelly McQuattie and Ron Kenney for winning the “Longest Drive” contest and the “Closest to the Pin” contest.

The U.A.E. winner will be accommodated at a luxury hotel and enjoy two days of professional golf at Hill Golf Course and Pebble Beach Golf Links venues. FedEx welcomed 120 guests at Al Badia Golf Club, who enjoyed the warm hospitality shown to them by FedEx team members.  For more information about the FGC’s dates, venues and terms of play across the countries that are hosting it this year, please visit fedex.com/golfchallenge.
