An Al Bawaba exclusive brings you a story of Egyptian state LEAKS straight out of the heart of the Revolution.
It all started on Saturday night, when some officers in the State Security started burning what are alleged to be classified documents in Alexandria state security office (Fairuz), in order to hide any evidence of the state security’s unsavory or unethical activities. The State’s security arm is widely accused of human rights abuses, such as torture of detainees.
Protesters, empowered by now by the promise of the newly sworn in PM Essam Sharaf to have a security apparatus that would serve the citizens, stormed the HQ of the state security agency, in the belief that officers were destroying key evidence inside.
When these ordinary members of the public got wind of this suspect activity they descended upon the building in order to rescue what they could of the papers.
After the Alexandria mission to thwart the subterfuge by state security agents, they transferred the mission to the Cairo base of the state’s internal security apparatus.
In their frustration driven by 30 years of suppression of dissent against Mubarak’s regime, they targeted the Cairo arm of the apparatus to prevent more dissembling and concealing of evidence. They are demanding the dismantling of the security service structures and people behind its activities.
Al Bawaba’s exclusive revelations are of the documents retrieved from this people-led operation.
They have remarkably been publishing all the rescued documents through lawyers, judges, experts using- once again- trusty Twitter, Facebook and other social media. These revelations involve some level of filtering as they chose not to share all the documents they got hold of, retaining some in the interests of national security, and others, applying discretion to protect the privacy of some individuals out of courtesy. Reports suggest the intention to offer the original documents to those directly implicated or involved.
Above we share our exclusive inside information on the controversial documents that have come to our attention. It must be noted that while the content is very illuminating and not entirely surprising in light of sleaze and scandal expected of the Regime by now, we cannot vouch for their veracity and credibility. Fabrication is not wholly out the question in light of the speculation and intense interest on the region. The slideshow above reminds us in the final picture that all is plausible.
