In his first collaboration with the screenwriter Lenin al Ramli, Egyptian director Khaled Galal is gearing up for the rehearsal of his new play Thebb Tshouf Maasah, Taban La (Would You Like to See Catastrophe, of Course Not) which will be staged at the National Theater.
“It was my wish to collaborate with Ramli in an artwork until he surprised me with a call to offer me a proposal for a series about the generations with superficial culture and awareness and how little knowledge leads people to become victims of religious and cultural fundamentalism and easy targets for deception by slogans,” Galal told the daily al Gomhuria.
Hani Salama and Hala Shiha have been tapped to play the starring role in the play and another prominent star will be nominated for another starring role.
“I consider myself a lucky director particularly in the private sector in which my play Lamma Baba Yanam (When Dad Sleeps) is currently being staged. In every show, I am always keen to tackle an issue and present something new, so I may spend a long time in studying the details of the play because I am sure the Egyptian viewer has become fully aware of what he sees,” added Galal.
Galal who is the manager of the Youth Theater said, “Since I assumed the management of the theater I used to introduce young screenwriters and directors as we have presented 25 plays, 99 percent of which were by the youth.”
“We have obtained more than a prize and the last one was at the Demo Festival which was held the year before the last for our play Haithu Tahdoth al Ashiaa (As Things Happen). We also managed to participate in four international festivals including al Mahabbeh Festival in Syria,” added Galal -- Albawaba.com
