The Acting Professions Association in Egypt nominated the renowned Egyptian actor Adel Imam for this year’s Mubarak Awards for Literature, Arts and Social Sciences, marking the first nomination of an actor for such an award.
The award which will be announced next month, is considered the top Egyptian prize awarded by the government. It amounts to 100,000 pounds.
“The nomination of Imam to receive Mubarak Award for Arts is not only due to being a unique artist but also because he is an actor who managed to make art a noble message and a humanitarian and patriotic objective. His selection also as an ambassador for Good Intention reflects the international agencies appreciation of Imam and his art,” the Association secretary general told the daily al Hayat.
Many observers believe that Imam has succeeded in securing the status of star no. 1 over thirty years. According to them, he managed to blend art with politics by coming close to the concerns of the public and simple citizens.
The roles of Adel Imam are not limited only to art but also to effective political activities which he started in 1988 by visiting the upper Egypt city of Asut where he performed the play al wad Sayyed al Shghal without being scared of the threats of the terrorist organizations. He also played a role in a film against terrorism also.
“I consider terrorists as colonialists and so I decided to fight them until they go away,” said Imam commenting on these initiatives.
The renowned actor confirmed his patriotic and humanitarian initiatives when he traveled to Morocco to portray the play al Zae’em (Leader) and donate the proceeds for Jerusalem to maintain Arab land ownership in East Jerusalem. He was honored by the late King Hasan II during the visit.
Following his visit to Morocco, Imam made a trip on board of an Egyptian plane to the Palestinian Authority land without obtaining an Israeli entry visas in order to participate in the Palestinian celebration of Gaza Airport inauguration -- Albawaba.com
