Seriously, just how important is it to know which country an artist is from, if they're talented and you're enjoying their art regardless of their race?
That's a question that's been on Emirati actress Mariam Hussein's mind, as social media users wouldn't leave the question of her race out of their posts this month!
While some claimed that Mariam's originally Moroccan or Iraqi, the actress decided to put the ridiculous speculations to rest herself.
Mariam posted a sarcastic video on her Instagram account, where she held up a Filipino passport and danced to the Black Eyed Peas's upbeat Filipino song "Bebot," where the lyrics shout out "Filipino, Filipino."
In the caption attached to the video, Mariam wrote, "My dear fans, in answer to the gossip and rumors that have been spreading about my race, with some claiming that I'm Iraqi, Moroccan or Emirati, I'd like to inform you all that I'm from the Philippines."
Whether she's jokingly saying that or not is still unclear.
Mariam added, "I wanted to give you peace of mind since the question of my ethnicity is giving such unrest to the public. Stay away from racism. I wish you would focus more on my career achievements and leave the question of my nationality to me."
"God will judge us based on what we did in our lives and not on our nationality. FYI: There is a different between nationality and ethnicity, you know what I mean."
