The series tells the story of a girl named Jocelyn (played by Lily-Rose Depp), a rising pop idol who falls in love with a cult leader and nightclub owner called Tedros (played by The Weeknd), their love turns toxic, and a complicated relationship.

However, the show received tons of backlash after critics at the Cannes Film Festival dubbed the show as abusive with many unnecessary pornographic scenes. Crew members claimed that the show is degrading that emphasized nudity and sexual torture, "more like a rape fantasy."

The Idol was created by Euphoria director Sam Levinson, and its first season which has five episodes was originally set for six episodes, the production stars The Weeknd, Lily-Rose Depp, Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, Blackpink's Jennie. It is worth mentioning that the series was shot in The Weeknd's own mansion.
