Prominent Algerian singer Warda recently appeared as a guest on the weekly program “Hatha Ana” (This is me) hosted by Lebanese journalist Rania Barghouth and aired on the Arab satellite channel MBC.
Despite a series of tough questions, Warda appeared calm and answered Rania’s questions without hesitation.
During the program, Warda revealed that her father did not approve of her becoming a singer, and only recognized her as a singer when the late Egyptian President Jamal Abd Al Naser personally greeted her as such.
Warda denied that her late husband, prominent Egyptian musician Baleegh Hamdi, used to physically abuse her. Baleegh was a quiet, introverted person, and it would have been out of character for him to use violence, said Warda.
However, “If he, or any other person dared to lay a hand on me, I would immediately strike back,” said Warda, adding that she is not afraid to hit a man regardless of his size.
Warda revealed that a man’s looks are not important to her and that she tries to find genuine qualities within a person. Her first husband had a wonderful personality and her second was a very talented musician, said Warda.
