The second Souq Okath Festival will kick off in Amman in mid July and will continue for one week under the banner (Cultures’ Dialogue).
The festival blends the eastern, western and other arts from all over the world. Most of the its activities which will focus on music, dancing and theatrical playing, will take place in the Jordanian antiquities area of Jabal al Qala’h in Amman.
A concert dubbed “On the Brink of Pain” will be performed by the Iraqi musician Nasir Shammah and his troupe and will be followed by a religious song by the Tunisian Sheikh Ahmed Jilmam who will make performances inspired from the Arabic and Islamic heritage.
Within the framework of blending between cultures, the festival’s audience will meet the Lebanese singer Wadie’ al Safi and the Spanish singer Jose Fernandes, who will offer a blend of Lebanese music and singing and the Spanish Flamenco music.
The Algerian Rai king, Cheb Khaled along with the Palestinian lute and violin player Simon Shaheen and his troupe “al Qantarah” will sing selected Rai songs.
Also the Lebanese singer Hanin will sing along with her Cuban troupe songs from the Arab heritage including songs for Asmahan, Farid al Atrash and Sayyed Darwish with Salsa and Tchatcha music.
The African Dancing Art Troupe will be represented in the festival through the Senegalese Tchwari Troupe. Latifa Fakiri from Tunisia will perform a dancing Tunisian show entitled Shararah.
The festival will be concluded with a feature by the Jordanian Rum Musical Troupe led by Tareq al Naser and will sing a number of Jordanian and Syrian folksongs -- Albawaba.com
