Jordanian singer Nidaa Sharara was the first hijabi woman to win The Voice Arabia in 2015.
Winning the popular show was a well-deserved conquest, but not necessarily a quick route to stardom.
In a recent interview with Laha magazine, the talented singer spoke out about the difficult road that lay ahead of her after winning, and the immense criticism she received from her own people for singing with her hijab on.
"My path towards stardom was filled with obstacles. But I was particularly surprised by the sharp criticism I received from Jordanian people; it totally depressed me, and that's when I decided to stay away from the spotlight.
Despite feeling "very depressed" at the time, Nidaa strangely felt "strong and successful" at the same time.
"I'm aware that not everyone who participates in reality TV talent competitions ends up 'making it,' in showbiz" Nidaa said.
Laha magazine also asked Nidaa if she was ready for marriage, to which she responded: "I'm not in a hurry to get married because I'm still young; I'm 24. I'm only thinking about my career for now."
