A sequel to the 1986 movie Top Gun is coming, Hollywood actor Tom Cruise said Wednesday.
"It's true," Cruise said on Australian television Channel 7's breakfast show. "I'm going to start filming it probably in the next year. It is definitely happening."
Cruise is currently Down Under promoting his latest film, the reboot of The Mummy.
Top Gun, the cult action film starring Cruise as a naval aviator, made him into a household name.
Despite mixed reviews, the movie was a box office hit, earning more than 350 million dollars worldwide. It also won an Oscar for best original song, for "Take My Breath Away" by the US band Berlin.
Rumours of a follow-up film have been circulating for several years. Last year, the original film's producer Jerry Bruckheimer said on Twitter that he and Cruise had met to "discuss a little Top Gun 2."
