The Egyptian Minister of Culture Farouq Hosni announced in a press conference in Cairo Monday the names of winners of the state’s encouragement and appreciation awards, Mubarak’s awards and excellence awards in arts, literature, and social, economic and legal sciences for 2002.
Writer Tharwat Okashah won the 100,000-pound Mubarak’s award, snatching it from his competitor Adel Imam who was nominated for the prize by the acting professions association, marking the first nomination of an actor for the top Egyptian prize awarded by the state.
Mubark’s prize for arts went to Abdel Qader al Kitt while the social sciences award went to Atef Sudki.
Scenarist Osama Anwar Okashah and critic Samir Farid shared the excellence award that amounted to 20,000 pounds. The state’s 10,000-pound encouragement award was shared between the two writers May al Tilmisani and Muntaser al Kaffash.
Eman Mustafs Abdel Dayem won the opera singing prize while Hani Halim won the film cheats prize. The prize for best direction went to Zaki Ali -- Albawaba.com
