A Cairo Appeals Court has set May 11 as the first day of the hearing in the case against Egyptian singer Tamer Husni, who is being tried for forging official military documents in order to avoid military service.
Tamer will also be tried for forging official university diplomas from the universities of Hilwan and Al Mansoura, a matter which he denies doing.
According to the London based daily, Dar Al Hayat, it is revealed that Tamer is fearing that he will be facing a possible verdict of a three-year jail sentence, which is the average sentence for forging official documents.
The singer has asked his fans to pray for him, and for God to alleviate his crisis.
Tamer stated that he did not actually submit the forged legal documents, falsely stating that he had fulfilled his military service.
The singer admits he did obtain the forged documents, but at the last minute decided not to submit them. He claims he was unable to distinguish between the real and forged document, and surreptitiously submitted the wrong set.
The singer revealed that his father abandoned him at a young age, contributing to his inability to face his military service.
Tamer revealed that his ordeal has exhausted him physically and mentally, describing it as the “worst moment” of his entire life.
The Egyptian television network has banned all of Tamer’s music, declaring he is a negative role model after he and friend Haitham Shaker were convicted of forgery. The decision to ban Tamer has not been implemented by the network to date.
