ALBAWABA - Sydney Sweeney finally speaks out about her controversial American Eagle campaign, clarifying her intentions.

Several months after her campaign for American Eagle provoked criticism, Sydney Sweeney is now addressing the fallout that has occurred over the public's perception of the advertisement.

The two-time Emmy nominee recently said that she "was honestly surprised by the reaction" to her "Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans" campaign. When it came out in July, the use of "jeans" as a double entendre for "genes" caused a lot of controversy and racism accusations.

“I did it because I love the jeans and love the brand,” Sweeney told People. "I don't agree with the ideas that some people linked to the campaign." Many people have given me motivations and labels that aren't true.

Sweeney said that she "leads with kindness" and felt the need to make her position clear after being asked about it in an interview and having her answer go viral.

“Anyone who knows me knows that I’m constantly trying to bring people together. I don't like hate and anger. I used to believe that I should never respond to the press, whether it was good or bad. "But recently I've realized that my silence on this problem has only made things worse, not better," said Sweeney. "I hope that the new year makes us think more about what brings us together instead of what separates us."

Sweeney's controversial blue jeans ad seemed to be a nod to Brooke Shields' famous 1980 Calvin Klein campaign. In response to the reaction, American Eagle said in a statement that the ad "is and always has been about the jeans." Donald Trump praised the ad, saying, "If Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, I think her ad is great."
