Sudanese artist Abdul Qader Hassan al-Mubarak paints in watercolor and worked in graphic design. He has also taught students art in the United Arab Emirates since 1980.
Al-Mubarak was born in Sudan in 1951, and grew up there. He counts its nature and landscape as one of great sources of inspiration for his art pieces.
“I have seen such unique colors since my early childhood. I am still obsessed with them, and they are always present in my paintings,” he said.
In 1978, the artist graduated with a photography degree from the College of Fine and Applied Arts in Khartoum.
In the early stages of his artistic career, al-Mubarak painted portraits while paying close attention to their details as he sketched them out. He would change his course in art to abstractionism, focusing on the use of color and not much else.
“Artists’ search for the truth is a lifetime exercise,” he said.
Al-Mubarak believes that his medium of choice, watercolor, is a valid gauge of his skills and mastery as a painter.
“Water colors can create an even surface on canvas and provide the viewers with unmatchable purity,” he said. A water color artist is just like a musician, and both have many things in common. Both have to be patient as musicians listen to the musical notes attentively, and water color artists have to embrace trial and error technique to reach their aspired target,” al-Mubarak added.
