British rock star Sting has confirmed that he will perform with Algerian Rai star Cheb Mami at a weekend concert in Tunis, according to press reports.
The announcement of his appearance at a 45,000-seat stadium on Saturday followed rumors that he might have to cancel because of logistical and financial problems.
Le Renouveau newspaper reported Wednesday that Sting had agreed to lower his take for the concert to 90,000 Dinars (54,000 dollars) from an unspecified earlier agreed fee. After costs, the remainder will go to a fund that fights poverty in Tunisia.
Fans will pay 15 Dinars (nine dollars) for seats and 25 Dinars for standing room.
Sting and Mami, who together recorded the hit "Desert Rose", performed Wednesday evening at the pyramids in Egypt to raise funds for Palestinian children.
