A Cairo court has set October 26,2003 as the hearing date for the case of Egyptian belly-dancer Fifi Abdo against Egyptian actress Shireen Saif El Din. Abdo filed a lawsuit against Shireen after the latter made public remarks accusing Fifi of ruining her marriage to Egyptian actor Midhat Saleh and being the main reason behind their divorce.

According to the London based daily, Al Hayat, Fifi was in outrage for being disgraced in such a way by Shireen in tabloids and so decided to take the matter to court, saying she will not under any circumstance be humiliated in such a way. Fifi stressed that the problem between her and Midhat is strictly financial and has nothing to do with his personal life.

Fifi felt it was her duty to defend her name and image against such false allegations that were published all over tabloids. Fifi added that she has nothing to do with the Shireen and Midhat’s divorce, but only wanted Midhat to pay back money he owed her.

Fifi had filed a complaint against Egyptian singer Midhat Saleh for giving her checks without credit as a payback for money she had loaned him early last year. Fifi had filed the complaint in June 2002 after Midhat refused to pay her back the money by ignoring all her attempts to contact him.

Abdo had warned Midhat that she would take him to court if he did not return her money which totaled over one and a half million Egyptian pounds. Midhat had given the dancer three bad checks each for half a million Egyptian pound.

The court sentenced Midhat to three years of prison for counterfeiting, but he demanded a retrial of the case. Midhat told the court that he did not take the money from Abdo as a loan but instead it was an investment by her in his new recording studio. Midhat added that every investment has the possibility of loss or gain and that he should not be obliged to cover Fifi's losses. –Albawaba.com
