Shireen: “Don’t believe what you read!”

Egyptian singer Shireen Abdul Wahab recently held a press conference before her performance at the Seventh Doha Song Festival.

Surrounded by a swarm of journalists from around the Arab world, Shireen stressed the importance she places on presenting a new style to her fans, so they remain anxious for more.  “Renewing my style does not only mean changing my look or appearance, but also includes working with new composers and singing in different dialects,” stated Shireen.

Shireen performed at last year’s Doha Festival, and stated that she was honored to receive another invitation.  “I highly respect the citizens of Qatar, and feel they have a true sense of art,” stated Shireen.”

According to the Qatar based daily, Al Raya, Shireen asserted that not everything that is written about her in most tabloids is true, and “one shouldn’t believe everything they hear or read.”

Shireen recently asserted that she never had plastic surgery because she is satisfied with her looks, and has only undergone minor dental work to improve her smile.

Shireen stated that she has not yet perfected the dialect of the Gulf countries, which is why she has yet to record songs in the dialect, but plans to do so in the near future.

On a different note, Arabic music satellite channels will begin airing the new clip by Shireen from the soundtrack for the new movie “Al Ishiq Wal Hawa” (Love and Romance). This marks Shireen’s first movie soundtrack and the clip features scenes from the film and its stars Ahmad Al Sakka and Muna Zaki.

Initially Moroccan singer Samira Saeed was nominated to record the soundtrack, but Shireen, considered Egypt’s number one artist with the highest record sales for the year 2005, was chosen instead.
