The head of the Egyptian censorship department, Mr. Madkour Thabet, has issued an urgent order demanding all screening venues in Egypt to cancel the preview of the cartoon movie “Mohammed Khatam Al Mursaleen” (Mohammed The Seal of the Prophets).
The Qatari daily, Al Raya newspaper has reported that the order also included the omission of some scenes where Muslims appear in the look of Pharos, breaking Kuraish idols. “Allowing such scenes will create a trend that might lead to the spreading of backward ideas such as the one adopted by former Taliban movement in Afghanistan, and which sparked the well known Buddha Statues crisis,” Thabet said.
Earlier in September, the Egyptian Islamic Research Academy, headed by Sheikh Said Agour, has sent a letter to the censorship authority objecting the appearance of Prophet Mohammed’s uncle, Hamza, and giving a list of names of Islamic symbols banned from screening or hearing in any work.
For its part, the movie’s production company has explained that “Mohammed Khatam al Mursaleen” was screened on several TV satellite channels and in many international festivals without the omission of any scenes.
The 15- minutes movie depicts the period of the emergence of Islam in the Arabian Peninsula and all the events following till the consolidation of the message in al Madina al Munawara. - Albawaba.com
